From the Principal’s Desk

03 FEBRUARY 2017

Dear Parents

Can you believe we are in the second month of the year already and our school is a buzz of activities. The school has grown tremendously and we currently have an enrolment of a 161 learners.

Thank you for affording us at St Gregory Primary School the opportunity to give your child the best education he/she deserves. A quote from anonymous: “Together may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly”.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

SCHOOL TIMES:

The school bell rings at 07:45 every morning. Please ensure that your child is here BEFORE then. Latecomers will be recorded by the secretary and will serve a detention after five late arrivals. Late days will also be recorded on reports at the end of the term.

Normal closing times are as follows:

DAY GRADE R GRADE 1 & 2 GRADE 3 GRADE 4 – 7
Monday 12:30 14:00 (sport) 14:00 (sport) 14:00
Tuesday 12:30 12:30 14:00 15:00 (sport)
Wednesday 12:30 14:00 (sport) 14:00 (sport) 14:00
Thursday 12:30 12:30 14:00 15:00 (sport)
Friday 12:30 12:30 12:30 12:30

I have put this in the newsletter again as we already had a number of issues regarding late arrivals in the mornings and especially learners not picked up at the right time in the afternoons.  Please make the necessary arrangements with the transport to pick your child up at the correct time and to ensure they do not leave anybody behind. This is becoming a problem as the staff is only responsible for the children during their working hours which ends at 15:00.

AFTER CARE:

After Care will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 13:00 to 15:00. This is a service run by the teachers at no extra cost. There are planned activities and some time will be spent on doing homework.

UNIFORMS AND GENERAL APPEARANCE:

Please take note that our school uniform is now available from Vawda’s school wear, 136 Albert street, Estcourt, telephone number: 036 352 7322 for your convenience as you can now purchase it at your leisure and not only during school hours. No uniform will be sold at the school anymore.

All shirts and jerseys must have the school badge. Please visit and take note of the school uniform policy on the website for details on what must be worn to school. No other apparel will be accepted. White takkies and white socks should be worn with sports uniform unless stipulated otherwise. Please ensure your child arrives at school clean, neat and tidy. Uniform and general appearance inspections will be done regularly.

EXTRA-MURAL ACTIVITIES AND SPORT:

Extra Murals:

Extra murals have been great fun thus far where the learners have learnt valuable skills. We have had fire making where the learners were taught safety around fires and the different ways of making fires which they then ended off with roasting marshmallows. Water balloon Volleyball was great fun and focused on a lot of team work. Paper Hats, where the learners were taught how to make a hat and were able to be creative and decorate their own hats. We look forward to the next upcoming extra murals.

Sport:

We will be having our Inter-House Gala on the 16th February at the Town Pool from 09:00 until 12:30. Grade 1-7 learners to be dropped off at the town pool, latest 8:15 and to be fetched at 12:30 from the town pool. Please arrange transport accordingly. There will be a tuck shop and hot dogs (R10) available. All parents, family and friends are welcome to join us for a fun filled day. Gr.RRR-Gr.R will have a fun water sports day at School. There will be a tuck shop available. All parents, family and friends are welcome to join us for a fun filled day.

We will be hosting our annual Inter-Schools Gala (Gr.4-7) on the 15th March at the Town Pool from 13:00 until 15:00. AGM:

We would like to invite all parents to our Annual General Meeting to be held on 07 March 2017 at 18:30 in our school hall. Important information regarding the governance of our school and important matters will be discussed.  Your attendance will be greatly appreciated.

SCHOOL FEES ACCOUNTS:

The school fees accounts will be sent to you via our Bursar on the 1st of each month.  Please note that we are a school fee paying school and that monthly fees are to be paid in advance by the 7th of each month.  Should you require any information in this regard, please contact Mrs Botha, our Bursar at the school’s finance office for assistance.

GENERAL:

A friendly request to parents not to interrupt the school day, by insisting and giving your child something in person, during class time.  It can be left in the front office and will then be sent to your child’s class.  Please note that no learner will be allowed to leave the school premises without the presence of a parent or designated person, and only after signing the learner out in the front office.  How inconvenient it might seem. It is for your child’s best interest and safety.

COMMUNICATION AND NOTICES:

Most communication from the school will be done via the homework / message book. Parents may also use this form of contact with the school or write a note attached to the homework book. Alternatively, parents may phone, make an appointment to see the teacher / principal personally or email the school should the need arise. Please ensure you read and sign all notices sent out by the school.
